Knitting: Vest
This V-neck vest, with two front pockets, is knit in one piece from the bottom up then seamed at the shoulders. The pockets are knit in using a double knitting technique that I learned from wizard Lucy Neatby, and the hem and front edges are worked along with the body in seed stitch. Armholes are finished by picking up stitches and working armb...
Knitting: Scarf
This scarf, worked in 3 colors, provides the suggestion of a braid; the yardage given is the total for all 3 colors, divided equally.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
These fingerless warmers are designed to keep hands and wrists cozy but also to allow normal activities such as knitting and typing, and even hand washing when the hand portion is folded back over the wrist (no thumbs). Direction of work is from the hand towards the elbow; the length of the cuff is determined by the knitter (and amount of yarn).
Knitting: Dress
The girls’ dress (or tunic or pullover) is designed for sport weight yarn in a main color with a smaller amount of contrasting color. It can be a summer dress, or worn in cooler weather over an undergarment. It can start as a low waist gown, and end as an empire waist pullover as your princess grows.
Knitting: Pullover
Theme with Variations is a lacy pullover offering several different silhouettes, knitter’s choice, which determine shape, ease, and size. It can be cropped or long or anywhere in between, boxy or fitted. The sweater was designed using Tess’ Designer Yarns Superwash Merino Petite.
Knitting: Scarf
This scarf features pockets that are knit along with the scarf body using a double knitting technique with one yarn. There is no seaming involved other than connecting the two scarf ends; the join is made at a pocket top. The pocket tops are finished by binding off, with optional upper ribbing and optional button loop closures.
Knitting: Cowl
This cowl was designed for Hunt Valley Cashmere’s 4-ply cashmere yarn (sport weight). It can also be made with their 8-ply yarn for an even thicker cowl. The pattern is both written and charted.
Knitting: Containers
Knitting a cabled cowl I found that I kept losing the cable needle; it was never really gone but was also never where I reached for it. I made a small flat ditty bag, and use it as the cable needle holder. It is a quick project that can be made with any weight of yarn. The bag is finished with a crocheted or knitted cord, which buttons to the b...
Knitting: Pullover
This cuff to cuff sweater was created for Tess’ Designer Yarns Superwash Merino Lace, 3 strands held together, for a sport weight yarn. By changing one color at a time the effect is of a gradient with controlled color repeats. The pictured sweater reflects my liking for asymmetrical garments.
Knitting: Scarf, Cowl
The pattern provides instructions for a scarf and a cowl, knit in worsted weight yarn. The stitch is reversible but not identical on both sides, and both sides are attractive (ideal for neckwear).
Knitting: Cardigan
This sideways knit cardigan is constructed in one piece then seamed along sleeves and underarms. The fabric canvas lends itself to variations such as using a gradient, or a fair isle pattern, or adding stripes. Neck and bottom edgings are picked up and knit when the body is complete, followed by the button bands. The edgings can be done in a co...
Knitting: Pullover
This sideways knit pullover has a placket neck opening with a one button closure. It was created for Tess’ Designer Yarns.
Knitting: Pullover
This cuff to cuff sweater was created for Tess’ Designer Yarns Superwash Merino, a worsted weight yarn. A tonal solid with one coordinating variegated stripe is shown, along with other versions.
Knitting: Pullover
This cuff-to-cuff pullover has a lace insert that starts at the right shoulder and continues diagonally across and down both front and back. This pattern is particularly well suited to variegated and tonal yarns as shown by the (well-worn) green sweater with black accents.
Knitting: Pullover
Designed for Tess Designer Yarns worsted, this cuff-2-cuff crew neck pullover (or cardigan) is ideal for tonal or variegated yarns. The pattern contains a basic crew neck pullover, and a variation with a lace panel running along each sleeve.
Knitting: Cardigan
This is the adult version of the children’s Klid. It features one upper pocket, moss stitch knitted-in trim, and free form cabled trees on a reverse stockinette ground. The sleeves are worked top down after the body of the garment has been completed.
Knitting: Scarf
This cabled scarf was designed for Hunt Valley Cashmere’s 4-ply cashmere yarn (sport weight). It can also be made with their 8-ply for an even thicker scarf. The length is controlled by the number of times the central 20 row section is repeated, knitter’s choice. The pattern is both written and charted.
Knitting: Scarf
This cabled scarf was designed for Hunt Valley Cashmere’s 8-ply cashmere yarn. The cables make it thick but the cashmere is light and soft, just the right combination for wintry wear.
Knitting: Vest
This is a very very warm, very very soft, richly cabled zip-front vest, designed for Hunt Valley cashmere 8ply yarn. It was first made available in kit form at Vogue Live NYC in 2011, and I have been wearing the version I made for myself on cold winter days ever since.
Knitting: Cardigan
This is a square necked, short sleeved, hip-top cardigan, designed for Kitten (extra soft and special yarn). It is light weight, stockinette, trimmed with seed stitch at neck, front, sleeve, and body bottom edges.
Knitting: Pullover
A bottom-up raglan with butterfly pattern yoke (optionally beaded) and a henley placket neck opening, buttoned, and edged with I-cord. Body and sleeves are worked bottom-up, circularly, joined for the yoke.
Knitting: Scarf
This reversible, and optionally beaded, scarf uses a pattern that matches the butterfly raglan sweater. However, the ends of the scarf are knit using a completely reversible version of the butterfly stitch pattern. I have not seen this pattern variation elsewhere.
Knitting: Cowl
This easily draped garter stitch entrelac cowl is worked in the round from two beautiful Tess’ Designer Yarns in contrasting colors and yarn textures. The pattern uses an equal percent of each skein (the additional yardage of Silky Locks is for the edge treatment). Length and height are easily adjusted by changing the number of repeats or knitt...
Knitting: Cowl
This unisex cowl is worked on straight needles for the desired length (once or more around the neck) and height. The pattern is completely reversible, same both sides, and is joined invisibly with a moebius twist. It is given charted and written.
Knitting: Scarf, Cowl
This reversible scarf or cowl is intended for snug winter wear, using next-to-skin soft yarn in equal amounts of 2 contrasting colors. The design is unisex.
Knitting: Scarf, Cowl
A reversible stitch pattern is used for a scarf and moebius cowl (1 1/2 skeins each, his and hers), or a double height cowl (3 skeins). Length and width can be adjusted to suit.
Knitting: Cardigan
A child’s cropped or hip length cardigan, featuring cabled trees on a purled background. The trees are intentionally slightly asymmetric to invite individual variation.
Knitting: Scarf
This scarf’s pattern suggests stacked up overlapping rectangles, or hearts. The version shown, in Tess’ Designer Yarns’ “Kitten”, is 5 1/2 inches wide by 76 inches long.
Knitting: Cardigan, Coat / Jacket
This sweater/coat, with pockets, is worked with 2 yarns held together to produce a bulky gauge. Two closely related colors give a nice randomly variegated effect. For example, a worsted weight yarn can be paired with another worsted or an aran. The black and gray shown in the sample looks more black because the black yarn was a slightly heavier...
Knitting: Pullover
This pullover is a top-down raglan, designed for Tess’ Designer Yarns Loopy Mohair (2 skeins used), one-size-fits-most. The yarn is surprisingly soft.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap, Scarf
The pattern has been updated (4/19/2014) and now includes charts. It is also available as a Ravelry download, in addition to the Tess’ Designer Yarns website where it may either be downloaded or ordered as a printed pattern (a mailed copy is $7.50).
Knitting: Poncho
This is a seamless entrelac poncho or capelet, worked from the neck edge down until it reaches elbow length. The work is then divided and the front and rear points are finished separately. The entrelac squares are worked in stockinette and the edging is attached I-cord.
Knitting: Pullover
This optionally oversized raglan pullover or tunic was designed for Hunt Valley Cashmere two-ply yarn, and offered as a kit in 1995. This version has additional sizes, a schematic, and charts as well as written instructions.
Knitting: Pullover
This raglan sweater is designed for Tess’ Silk & Ivory yarn, knitted bottom-to-top on circular needles. The lace pattern looks well on a large range of needle sizes; consequently the instructions are given for two size groups: small-medium (bust size approximately 36”) and medium-large (bust size approximately 42”). Variations within these ...
