Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This stretchy hat alternates brioche rib and garter ridges to create a solid grid punctuated with points of vibrant color.
Knitting: Scarf
Liven up a simple 2-color brioche scarf with a scattering of horizontally striped stockinette bubbles. Both right and wrong sides are handsome – an important feature in a scarf. Since stockinette and brioche gauges differ, the bubbles create interesting undulations in the long lines of brioche rib.

Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
Mr March rides hard and takes no prisoners. He is relentless with his powerful machine, always in hot pursuit of those that deserve his attention. It’s a lonely life in the rugged badlands, but at least he has comfy hands in a masculine pair of fingerless gloves with a bold stitch pattern and firm gauge.

2014-12-31 Petite Purls will be closing its web doors today. For now, I have posted a PDF of the pattern on Ravelry as it appeared on the Petite Purls website. This version of the pattern is free. Sometime soon I hope to post a nicely formatted, print-quality PDF. At that point, I will start charging a nominal fee for the pattern. I’ll give som...

Knitting: Shrug / Bolero
The average post-apocalyptic girl so often seems to dress without considering the realities of her environment. This pattern is an attempt to provide clothing appropriate to the arid wasteland without, of course, obscuring anyone’s scantily-cladness. This cropped burnoose is worked in a lightweight yarn at a loose gauge for coolness, with a dee...

Inflammable is a double-knit reversible hotpad with an I-cord hanging loop. The motif is based on the flammable hazard symbol. The pattern is fully charted.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Thick, fluffy fisherman’s rib and honeycomb brioche form a warm, decorative, reversible fabric for this close-fitting winter hat. On one side, the stitches evoke a sand dollar. On the other, they resemble a sea anemone as seen at low tide--with tentacles retracted. The stitch patterns and color-play are so engaging that you’re liable to end up ...
Crochet: Scarf
Tweed stitch in crochet goes by many names, including moss, linen, granite and seed stitch. Whatever you call it, the stitch is easy to work and creates a handsome woven texture. The fabric is reversible, an important feature in a scarf.
Knitting: Chart
Full set of duplicate stitch upper- and lower-case monogram alphabets for the Ex Libris e-reader cover.
Knitting: Knee-highs, Mid-calf Socks
These socks are worked from the top down in two-color brioche, which is warm, cushiony, and stretchy. They can be worked either as knee socks or mid-calf. The calf shaping on the knee socks creates a beautiful undulating pattern. The ankles are decorated with cabled clocks.
Knitting: Feet / Legs - Other
No one looks at you funny if you say you can’t hike as far as you used to because of knee problems, but it’s embarrassing to say you need to stop because your toes hurt. I’ve tried different boots and different lacings, but haven’t figured out how to keep my big toe from jamming against the front of the boot when hiking down hill. I tried silic...
Knitting: Potholder
This pattern is ridiculously easy to knit, solves an important kitchen safety problem, makes a lovely last-minute gift, and is a great way of using up odds and ends from stash.
Knitting: Electronics Cozy
I designed this pattern in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the video game Tetris. This cell phone cozy in a mosaic pattern of Tetris blocks is the perfect blend of old school and new. You can size the case to fit anything from iPod to smart phone to glasses to Nook or Kindle or even iPad.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Dec 2009 Updated version includes larger cable pattern for adult-sized socks. Also now has working hyperlinks, and fixed an erratum in Round 1 of the written instructions for the cable pattern (the chart was correct).
Knitting: Mittens
I usually knit in a very planned-out, methodical way. Occasionally, though, I like to just start knitting and change colors as the spirit moves me. These warm, festive children’s mittens knitted in Lamb’s Pride Bulky are the result. They’re easy to make and a great stash-busting project.
