2014-12-31 Petite Purls will be closing its web doors today. For now, I have posted a PDF of the pattern on Ravelry as it appeared on the Petite Purls web site. This version of the pattern is free. Sometime soon I hope to post a nicely formatted, print-quality PDF. At that point, I will start charging a nominal fee for the pattern. I’ll give some advance warning before that happens.

I have a good friend who prides herself on wearing mismatched socks, so I designed these cuff-down “fraternal twins” for her little boy. The socks represent the medieval game of checkers from the tops of their crenellated cuffs to the tips of their pointy gothic toes.

Since buttons may not be appropriate for young children, I have also included instructions for making duplicate stitch checkers.

The Infant and Child sizes are knit with US 1 - 2.25 mm needles. The Toddler and Youth sizes are knit with US 1.5 - 2.5 mm needles.

I used KnitPicks Palette because it comes in a zillion colors and I had it in stash. A softer superwash sock yarn would be more practical for children’s wear.
