This collection is all about my favorite things: knitting, handcrafting, families, gardening, and nostalgia. Our family has recently returned to our roots by growing some of our own food and spending more time outside with one another. I’ll bet many of you are doing the same. There’s a peaceful saneness in it all, as we reconnect with our basic needs.

Knitting: Pullover
Pullover is knit from the bottom up in the round. Sleeves are knit in the round to the armholes and then yoke is begun when sleeves and body are joined. Short rows are worked at the beginning of the yoke to raise the back neck. Colorwork is worked at the hem, cuffs, and yoke. All edges are worked in corrugated rib. Collar is knit on as you go. ...

The pattern helps you navigate the pattern in the round so that you won’t get your lines crossed and end up in the wrong des...

Knitting: Gloves
The Beechbone Gauntlets are a study in contrasts. Worked in the round, each begins at the Beech Leaf Lace patterned cuff and transition to 1/1 rib at the inside wrist for snug fit. At the onset of the rib the herringbone pattern begins at the back of the hand, continues as the thumb gusset and palm are worked in Stockinette stitch, and carries ...
Knitting: Gloves
Named for the old belief that random pains were caused by “elf-shot” from an elf’s arrow and finding an arrowhead would protect you from them, these gauntlets are sure to keep you protected from the cold. The scant few eyelets in both lace patterns are enough to make them pretty, but not enough to let too much chill in.
Knitting: Cardigan
Named for my maternal grandmother’s branch of the family, the Adcock is a Grandma as well as a Grandpa sweater. With its classic style and range of sizes, you can make it for any member of the family!

Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The image of the wavy line between stitch patterns came to me as I awoke one morning. Soon after, I set about trying to chart it. Once I chose the two stitch patterns to best represent the image in my head, I realized that the eyelet pattern represents bubbly sea waves as they crash against a wall of subtle cable “stones. Thus, the Balla Mara w...

“Alltan,” meaning “brook” or “stream” in Gaelic, is so named for the rippling cables covering two sections of the blanket on either side of a central path. Knitting: Beret, Tam
The Espalier Tam is festooned with architectural twisted stitches akin to the source of its name, the garden practice used to train trees, shrubs, or woody vines into a sometimes flat, decorative configuration not normally formed by nature itself. Knit this tam in the round if you love Bavarian stitch patterns with just a touch of lace. It’s a ...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Part of the Homegrown Hat Collection, the Skep Hat resembles an old-fashioned bee skep overflowing with honeycomb. Bees once built their hives in the underside of the skep, a handmade basket of sorts with a small hole in one side for bee entry and exit, so this Skep is more of an artist’s interpretation of how one works. These rather inhumane t...
Knitting: Beret, Tam

Knitting: Pullover
The Magdalena, a collaboration with MacKintosh Yarn, was influenced by women’s Medieval garments, and especially the painting “Mary Magdalene” by Dutch painter Jan van Scorel (1495-1562).
Knitting: Scarf
Inspired by the Art Deco style for the Brendigan Scarf, I searched for lace stitch patterns that would convey this look. Art Deco began in the 1920’s in Paris as a departure from the organic style of Art Nouveau as tastes moved more toward technology. The angular, geometric shapes in this scarf embody Art Deco as I interpret that wonderful arti...

The Ivywalk Stole is a collaboration of three different lace patterns and a sweet feather and fan edging. Knitting: Scarf
The look of this design is random, but is actually made of a series of cables worked within a framework of twisted rib. The wandering stitch pattern repeats six times and begins and ends with simple 1/1 twisted rib. The design is subtle, yet interesting enough for any discerning scarf wearer.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
If you need a sweet beginner Fair isle project, this might be the perfect one for you. This warm, yet lightweight hat is knit on larger needles than usual for fingering, yet turns out just right. Instructions include numbers for two different depths so that you may customize your hat for your own wearing--mid-ear or covering the earlobe.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
These mitts are named Ironwork because the colorwork pattern reminds me of wrought iron work. The idea came to me as I was learning Fair Isle knitting--I wanted a project that would give me practice, but that would not involve steeks and rapid color changes. Keeping the colorwork away from the shaping areas allows singular focus, and the use of...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Merripog means “happy kiss,” because these socks have just enough of a happy kiss of colorwork to keep things interesting. I designed these socks as I was practicing my two-handed color knitting and wanted to be able to take breaks between the color changes. The cuff starts with a contrast color, adds the main color in a flowery pattern, then t...
