This e-book features 2 popular designs, the Dancing Stars Hat and the Stella -Lune Mitts. The mitts are offered in either worsted or dk weight to fit most adult sized hands, and the hat is offered in 2 sizes for either dk or worsted weight yarn to fit a variety of youth-adult heads. Make them to wear separately or pair them together for a jolly jig under a Solstice sky, to bring a little warmth and color to those cold winter nights!

The charted designs for this combo are inspired by Maori Tribal Creation Myths, more specifically the ‘Tai Huri-huri’ symbol, which means ‘Turning Tides’ & is said to represent the cyclical yet ever changing nature of life. For this design I chose shades that remind me of Earth, Sea & Sky- this design is sized for adults (medium), head sizes ranging from 20-22”, hand sizes ranging 6.5-8”, measured around largest part of palm ( excluding thumb). In researching knitting during the regency era, I found many existing examples of these delightful little pin balls like the one reproduced here.

As with all of my sock designs, this is a cuff-to-toe project. I recently added a 3rd size to this pattern, and a photo of a pair done in Regia design Line Kaffe fassett as background with solid black. The pattern now has 3 sizes and 3 gauges. Good chart reading and 2-color knitting skills required for this project.

This lovely lace pattern is rumored to have come from Ireland around 1880, specifically from the Oriel District around County Monaghan. Although it has a “right” and a “wrong” side, it is equally attractive on both.
