Trellis toque is inspired by the twists and turns taken by plants on a trellis. There are thicker twists, lighter twists, and simultaneously random yet symmetrical twists.
Materials
• Approx. 200m (219) yards of worsted weight yarn. I chose to use Berroco Ultra Alpaca (100gm/3.5oz; 200m/219yds; 50%Wool, 50% Alpaca), and had about 3gm left over from 1 skein of this yarn.
• 4.5mm (US 7) and 5mm (US 8) dpn needles or 40cm (16 inch) circular needles (or needles that will match your personal tension and yarn choice)
• Cable needle
• Tapestry needle
• Stitch markers
Sizing
The hat measures 53 cm (21 inches) around. One size fits most.
The size can be adjusted by working more or less repeats of the cable pattern.
Tension
20 sts and 28 rows = 10cm/4in over stockinette with 5mm (US 8) needles
Pattern Notes
This toque has a 16-stitch repeat over 16 rounds. On Round 3, the BOR moves forward by 2 stitches at the beginning of the round. On Round 8, the BOR moves back by 2 stitches at the end of the round. To change the size of the toque, adjust the number of cast-on stitches by multiples of 16. The height of the toque can be adjusted by working fewer or more repeats. Instructions for the cable pattern are written out, as well as charted.
