Puu sweater is an old-fashioned fitted sweater with a bit of negative ease. It fits tight on body and follows the body measurements. Puu is designed with the proportions of men in mind but can be knitted to anybody.

Puu echoes the style of fisherman ganseys from the North Sea. The waves of the sea flow from the saddle shoulders to the top of the sleeves in a continuous way. The front is decorated with The Tree of Life. A similar, but smaller tree marks the back. Puu means tree in Finnish.

Puu is knitted top down in the round in one piece starting from the double collar. Shoulder flaps are knitted after the collar, and stitches for back and front are picked up from the shoulder flaps. Set-in sleeves are worked at the same time with the back and the front. Sleeves are tight and a pattern gives a stretchy fit to the elbows. After dividing the stitches at the underarm, the body is worked in the round in stockinette with a delicate little pattern to mark side seams. The hem is divided for back and front, the back is slightly longer. Puu is a sweater for skilled knitters and requires a bit of concentration.

Materials
Yarn:Jalovilla Sorja, 100% wool from Satalammasta farm, from sheep living ecological life, (100g= 560m) handdyed green, 2 (3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4) skeins. Total of 1040 (1190, 1360, 1520, 1670, 1790, 1900, 2040) m / 1130 (1300, 1490, 1670, 1830, 1960, 2080, 2230) yards.
You can use any yarn, but this will affect your gauge and the amount of yarn needed.

Needles: US #2,5 3,0 circulars of 40 and 80 cm and dpns.
Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch markers of which one different, stitch holders or waste yarn.

Gauge for stockinette: 24 sts ja 32 rows = 4 inches / 10 cm with US #2,5 3,0 needles, blocked. Please make a swatch and select a suitable needle size to get the right gauge.

Puu on perinteinen tyköistuva villapaita. Se on vartalonmyötäinen ja seurailee kantajansa muotoja. Puu on mitoitettu miehen vartalomittojen mukaan, mutta sen voi neuloa kenelle vain.

Puu on tyyliltään Pohjanmeren kalastajapaita. Meren aallot lainehtivat satulaolkapäiltä hihojen päällä ranteisiin asti jatkuvana virtana. Rinnassa on Elämän puu -kuvio. Hieman pienempi puu koristaa yläselkää.

Puu neulotaan ylhäältä alaspäin yhtenä kappaleena, kauluksesta aloittaen. Olkapoletit neulotaan kauluksen jälkeen, ja silmukat sekä etu- että takakappaletta varten poimitaan polettien reunoista. Istutetut hihat neulotaan samaan aikaan etu- ja takakappaleen kanssa. Hihat ovat tiukat ja ne muotoillaan kyynärpäiden kohdalta joustaviksi nurjilla ja oikeilla kerroksilla. Kun silmukat on jaettu kainaloiden kohdalla, jatketaan vartalon neulomista pyörönä. Sivusaumojen kohtaa korostaa pieni kapea mallineule. Helma jaetaan kahteen osaan ja takaosa on hieman pitempi. Puu sopii taitaville neulojille ja vaatii hieman keskittymistä.

Tarvikkeet: Neula, silmukkamerkkejä, joista yksi erilainen, silmukanpidikkeitä tai joutolankaa.
