Pip the Pug
In 2024, I challenged myself to crochet and create new designs in a different direction than people expect. Most of the time, my designs can be placed among home design and decoration, sometimes as accessories to use…but there is much more besides those things. One of those challenges has become creating a more experienced amigurumi design. I have studied how body parts, expression, and construction of this type of crocheting is done, so I took the task of creating something. As I have loved pugs my whole life, I came up with the idea to create a pug out of yarn—nothing new here, but it was challenging and fun enough to design for me. I hope you like Pip, as he/she has been the outcome. Use all your creativity to create a wonderful new friend out of yarn.
General information about the pattern:
Yarn Requirements: I used Scheepjes Stonewashed for this pattern. This yarn comes in balls of 50 grams with a length of 130 meters. The yarn consists of 78% cotton and 22% acrylic. I used two colors for this. A beige color for most of the body and legs, and a dark brown color for the snout and ears.
COLOR A: 831 Axinite – 3 balls needed/ 370 meters of yarn needed
COLOR B: 829 Obsidian – 1 ball needed/ 80 meters of yarn needed
Crochet hook needed: I used a 3.0mm hook for the entire pattern.
Size: Pip has a length of 25cm / 10 inches measured from front legs to tail. Pip has a width of 15 cm/ 6 inches measured from leg to leg. Pip has a height of 25 cm / 10 inches measured from ear to bottom.
Other materials needed: To make this pattern, you will need some additional items. Some are practical, others will make things easier crocheting the pug.
- 1 plastic, black nose 25mm.
- 2 plastic eyes in color brown-transparent - 24mm.
- About 50-75 grams of fiberfill
- Stitch markers
- Iron pins
- Textile glue with ability to dry up invisible
- Sewing needle
- Row counter (if you find it hard to keep track on the count of Rounds/Rows)
The pattern has clear, written instructions with a LOT of photowork to guide you. No charts or videos are included.
A bit of creativity is definitely needed to crochet and construct this pug. I have added several photos to guide you, but the placement of body parts also requires a bit of creative input and a good eye for position. I did my best to point it all out, but you also have to use your sight and creativity to make the best version of it.
the pattern exists out of simple and basic crochet stitches.
After purchase, you can download a digital PDF file in English (US terms), or Dutch. You get access to both languages.
