Sanctum
Sanctum is a mosaic crochet blanket that came to mind after many travels around the world. No matter in which country or city I set foot on the ground, I always visit a church or cathedral for the architectural highlights. Besides, you often find very ancient art and details in buildings like these. Although there are many famous ones, like Notre Dame in Paris, the Sagrada Familia in Spain, and Vatican City, they all share similar connections. And some of them I have tried to capture in this blanket.
General information about the pattern:
Yarn Requirements:
The pattern is made with Scheepjes Stonewashed. Stonewashed comes in 50-gram balls and measures 135 meters. The yarn consists of 78% cotton and 22% cotton. I used one base color, 803 Black Onyx. And a Scheepjes Stonewashed/Riverwashed color pack. I used 55 colors out of the color pack. You will use approximately 7-9 grams of each color from the color pack, which comes to 1200-1300 meters of yarn.
Colors are divided into the following order:
Color A: 803 Black Onyx – 10 balls needed, including the small ball out of the color pack. (1300 – 1350 meters)
Color B: 57 colors of the Scheepjes Stonewashed/Riverwashed color pack. – (1200-1300 meters)
When I designed this pattern, the colorpack was still available; however, it seems the pack has been discontinued, as has the Riverwashed yarn from Scheepjes. My advice, when not having a colorpack anymore in your possession, would be to use the new Scheepjes Stone washed Flow - a gradient type of yarn that has the same conditions and is already changing colors on its own. In this way, you would have the same color flow throughout the pattern, but you don’t have to switch between small balls of color all the time. See my blog post for more details on color.
Crochet hooks needed:
I recommend a 4.0mm for the entire pattern and a 5.0mm for the border.
Size: The finished size of the blanket will be 90cm/ 36 inches in width and 120cm/ 48 inches in height.
-If you want to extend your blanket, add 14 sts for each repeat in width. Height can be obtained by repeating several Parts.
-
The pattern is made by using the mosaic technique, using front and back loops. Loose ends will be worked away in an envelope border, and there is no need to weave all of these in.
-
The pattern holds charts, photos, and written instructions to guide you along. It is a large pattern that you can follow by reading or just using the charts. No video is available for this pattern.
-
After purchase, you can download a PDF file in all available languages, which are Dutch and English (US).
There is a small update in both versions of the pattern. After today (2-2-26), the pattern was updated.
Errata, both languages - Part 2 - R9 - in the repeat part, the end was saying 3sc in blo - which had to be 2sc in blo, 1dc in flo.
Errata English version - Part 3 - R14- the repeat part held 3sc in blo too much. This concerns the 3sc in blo before the 5sc in blo.
