Folsom Prison Blues
Inspired by one of Johnny Cash’s most famous songs, this pattern features a cable panel that looks like a chain-link fence. The ribbing on the back of the leg represents prison bars, and also provides the necessary added stretch for a heavily cabled sock.
This is a cuff-down sock, written for the magic loop method. It has a ribbed garter stitch heel flap that requires no purling. Because the cable panel is quite wide, instructions are provided for only two sizes: medium (large), with 77 (81) stitches per round; however, the fit is more like a vanilla/ribbed sock with 73 (77) stitches, since the cables pull in. Adjusting the pattern to accommodate a larger foot should not be difficult.
Instructions are mostly charted. The pattern assumes familiarity with basic sock knitting concepts, chart reading, and cables.
