This pattern was the winner of the unravel 2020 design competition - as voted by you!

This double-layered cowl has a Moebius twist allowing the piece to wrap easily and lay nicely. It is a lively conversation between two friends as one layer features cables and bobbles to add texture, and the other layer uses simple stockinette, letting the yarn speak for itself. It’s the perfect project for two skeins, where one is a solid colour and the other is a matching hand-painted skein.

Size: one size. Height: 26cm / 10”, circumference: 64cm / 25”

Yarn: Fingering weight, allow approximately:

  • 65g / 260m / 285yds of main colour.
  • 55g / 220m / 240yds of contrasting colour.

Yarn used in the sample is under 2 skeins of Albanach Artisan Yarns Merino/Mohair (100g / 400m / 458yds).

Gauge: 22 sts & 30 rows = 10cm / 4” in Stockinette st, blocked. It is not crucial for this project, but the required yardage and size of the end result might differ.

Suggested needles: 3.25mm (US 3) or needle size to obtain gauge.

Supplies: Cable needle (optional), 1 stitch marker, tapestry needle.

Techniques used: Cables, bobbles, intarsia, mattress stitch.

My advice is to use a solid light or bright colour as the main colour so that the cable and bobble texture doesn’t get lost.
