Fiery Dragon Skin Cowl
A cosy, one ball cowl that is easier to make than it looks!
First published in 2019 using Knitting Fever’s Painted Desert, the pattern has now been updated to work with 100g of any weight of yarn.
Specific instructions are given for 4-ply (the original pattern), DK, Aran and Chunky weight yarns, along with a guide to calculating your ideal cast-on with non-standard yarns such as hand-spun.
The texture of the stitch pattern, which is derived from trellis stitch, combines well with long gradient colour changes, variegated or semi-solid yarns to create the impression of dragon’s skin.
Original Suggested Yarn: Knitting Fever Painted Desert (100% wool, 400m/100g), 1 ball, Colour 26 – Show Stopper
Needles: 3.5mm (US 4) - 6mm (US 10), 60cm circular, or size to obtain gauge for chosen yarn
Notions: 1 stitch marker, Tapestry needle
Gauge: 10cm = 15.5 - 27 sts x 32 - 48 rnds over stitch pattern (Rnds 9-24), unstretched, depending on yarn
Sizing: 52 - 66cm circumference x 16 - 24cm high, depending on yarn. Guidance for adjusting circumference and height to personal preference also given in pattern.
