In Greek mythology Clytia was a water nymph. She was in love with Helios, the personification of the sun, but he didn’t love her back. In her mourning over her lost love she sat naked on a rock, without any food and drink, staring at the sun all day long. After nine days she was transformed into a sunflower, a flower that is known for always turning in the direction of the sun.
Clytia mittens are a pair of traditional colorwork mittens with a ribbed cuff and thumb gusset for a comfortable fit. The main motif at the back of the hand is a large sunflower that will make your hands bloom in the winter cold.

The pattern is suitable for intermediate knitters and adventurous beginners. Specific required skills are listed below. Colorwork pattern is charted only.
