This jumper is inspired by my total and absolute love of fisherman’s gansays. The history of why they were made is what knitting means to me - a personal hand knitted garment that keeps the wearer warm, dry and surrounded with a feeling of being loved while they work hard.

I love this stitch pattern. It looks complicated but is only a 4 row repeat so once you’ve got the rhythm of the repeat you can sit back and relax with the pattern. You are only cabling on one of those 4 rows, which means you have that one row of ‘twisting’ and then 3 rows of just knit and purl.
If you are new to cabling and garment knitting then you can practise this stitch on the Bempton Hat or the Bempton Mittens.

The sleeves are rib only so all the cable work is on the body. This jumper is unisex and because of the ribbing fits your body shape perfectly. You can knit a size smaller than your own to create negative ease if you wanted a figure hugging jumper or you can knit one with positive ease, so a size or two bigger than your own to create a looser fitting jumper.

Gauge (tension): 22 stitches and 28 rows to 10cm/4ins square over main pattern when slightly stretched using 4.5mm needles.18 stitches and 24 rows to 10cm/4ins square over rib pattern when slightly stretched using 4.5mm needles.
