The standard pattern to which I knit my plain socks - now in written form!

The general idea behind this design is that I wanted to achieve a very varied mix of colours, but only use 4 yarns and mix them in a pixelated way to get an effect similar to old computer graphics or a CMYK colour profile. The result reminded me a bit of an explosion in a confetti factory, hence the name.

Originally designed for the Amirisu Sock Club 2017, this is now (2020) available in English. Enjoy.

A very simple stranded design, but as so often, simplicity can create high impact. There is an original sock in a museum in Austria worked in just three colours that looks very striking, but I went for the full on leftover approach - go for what works best for you.

A sock inspired by classic fishermen ganseys. Apart from the main patterns, this design also tries to emulate the way the underarm gussets are shaped on close fitting sweaters to give a slighly different look to the gussets on the foot.

This design is essentially a modular construction, but using a self-striping yarn will go some way to disguise the precise nature of construction. Deceptively simple slip stitch pattern worked in 3 colours. Around 40-50g per colours used, depending on choices made for cuff, heel and toe.

This is a deceptively simple way of constructing a sock by reducing the flap to a very small strip and working an extended gusset in its place. The rounds form a right angle around the ankle and instep, which gradually softens into a continuous round; hence the reference to the mathematical problem of ‘squaring the circle’.

A design inspired by Scandinavian sweater construction, namely the stranded yoke style where decreases are masked by the pattern.

Designed for the October 2014 Sockdown in Sock Knitters Anonymous, theme “global”, to explore and reflect some of the characteristics of classic Fair isle knitting.

A sock featuring some classic Bavarian twisted stitch motives, many of which have been collected in the three excellent volumes of ‘Baeuerliches Stricken’ by Lisl Fanderl. I have named this design for her husband Wastl Fanderl, who was a prominent figure in collecting, curating and furthering traditional alpine music.

A decptively simple lace construction that is based on a rather neat principle where columns travel around the leg. Because the effect is rather ordered and systematic, I would call this a “masculine lace” if there is such a thing…

This pattern was designed for Tour de Sock 2013.

this is my design for the Sock Knitters Anonymus Sockdown 2013 - literary inspiration. It is inspired both by the Art Deco feel of F Scott Fitzgerald’s short stories and particular by the cover designs of the Penguin hardback edition of his collected works.

This is a very simple sock pattern, based on textured stitches like the ones found on traditional Guersey / Gansey fishermen’s sweaters.

Having just wrestled with a multi coloured stranded sock, I wanted to design a pattern that just used two colours throughout. It’s a very simple little leaf chart, and in the course of the sock, it will get modified in three different ways: on the heel, it disappears into stripes without decreases, over the instep it decreases centrally, and on...

A very simple stranded pattern, could be ideal to use up leftovers, as long as you are not afraid to sew in the ends on the inside…

This is the result of several attempts to create a sock pattern that has parts that are knitted in different directions. I like the various sideway patterns that are around, but they tend not to fit too well, as the fabric is less stretchy across, and I needed some sort of allowance for my high instep as well.

This sock was designed for the Nov 2011 Sockdown in the Sock Knitters Anonymus group. Considering what a struggle the initial conception was, and looking at the monster I created, I think it’s only fitting that this sock was heavily inspired by Mary Shelley’s book “Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus”.

Yeah - because the world totally needs another Christmas ornament pattern…

The “Love” comes from the hugs & kisses cable, and the “Liquor” in question is Chartreuse, seeing as this was designed especially for the SKA September 2011 challenge. It will of course work equally well in blue (Curacao), brown (Amaretto) or yellow (Limoncello)…

Be gentle, this is my first written pattern… it also has not been tested by anyone but me, so there is a chance directions may make sense to me but nobody else.
