Yulan
Yulan is a textured neck warmer inspired by the magnolia in my front garden. It is a raised diamond with a small “round” centre like a forming bud containing a stamen ball.
It is designed to be a snug, turtle neck style. If you would like to make your cowl wider you can do so by foundation chaining extra multiples of 8.
I have graded Yulan as an intermediate level pattern but once you have the stitch memorised it is an easy repeat.
Materials needed:
Yulan was designed to make a Cowl using a any weight of yarn. I have used 4 ply/fingering weight 100 gm of natural White Gum Wool 17.5 micron merino with approximately 429 m. Using a 3 and 3.5mm hooks the finished size of the sample is approximately 26h x 28w cm after blocking.
Stitch marker to mark your first st.
Wool/darning needle to sew in your ends/tails.
Hook size:
3 and 3.5mm-4ply
4 and 4.5mm-8ply
Or the hook sizes you usually use for the weight of yarn chosen
Gauge: there is no gauge for yulan, use the hook you are most comfortable using for the yarn.
