Wraps and Ridges Beanie
Inspired by the textures and stitch patterns in the Harmony Guides by Interweave Press, I paired a simple seeded ribbing together with a wrapped smocked stitch pattern to create a classic hat that works well with both variegated and semi-solid yarns. The knit stitch ridges create geometric lines that travel from the edges through a wrapped stitch section, creating visual interest through textural elements. This pattern has a corresponding fingerless mitts pattern, Wraps and Ridges Mitts, to complete the set. Purchase the ebook including the mitts pattern and save $1 over the individual pattern prices.
Yarn: 80(98, 124, 140, 158, 186) yrds 73(90, 113, 128, 145, 170)m DK or light worsted weight yarn for the hat; 220 yrds(201m) DK or light worsted weight yarn for the cowl
Gauge: Four options are listed for gauge. Choose one or two to determine if you have achieved gauge necessary.
- approx. 11/16 “ (1.75cm) on US5 (3.75mm) in Seeded Ridges from middle of ridge to middle of next ridge

- approx. 1¼” (3.75cm) on US7(4.5mm) in Diamond Wraps from middle of wrap to middle of next wrap
- 19 sts = 4” (10cm) in stockinette on US7(4.5mm) (not used in pattern, but can be used to estimate)
Sizes:
Hat: Infant (Toddler, Child, Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large)
Finished brim circumference of 12.4(13.75, 15, 16.5, 17.75, 19.25)” 31.49 (34.9, 38, 41.9, 45,48.9)cm unstretched
To fit head size up to 15.75(17.5, 19.25, 21.5, 23, 25)” 40(44.5, 48.9, 54.6, 58.4, 63.5)cm in circumference . Should fit with negative ease so make unstretched size slightly smaller than your actual head circumference.
Want a cowl? Removed designation to avoid confusion for the Gift-a-long categories, but note included in the pattern to leave off decreases and add ribbing to create just that.
Materials: Cable Needle for Diamond Wraps (optional)
Yarn needle for weaving in ends
For a bit of extra fun, use one color for all purled stitches and one color for all knit stitches.
