Wrap Me Up In Kisses Cowl
Wrap Me Up In Kisses is a big bold 3D cowl: bouncy rib is overlaid with padded argyle cables that meet with hand-tied icord bows. Bright primaries will make a splash on the ski slopes or a restrained palette will suit town or country elegance. As you will start by taking a pair of scissors to each skein of yarn, it’s not a project for the timid knitter, but the pattern is both charted and written out in full, and there are no complicated stitch patterns to memorise.
Finished Size Approximately 7″ high and 22″ circumference.
Yarn Artesano, Superwash 100% Merino Wool, 100% wool; 109 yds (100m)/50g: 4932, Pillar Box Red, 1 skein (color A); 0157, White, 1 skein (color B); SFN50, Black, 1 skein (color C).
OR
Yarn Knit Picks Swish Worsted, 110 yds Superwash Merino Wool; 110 yds (100m)/50g: Gulfstream (A), 1 skein, Lost Lake Heather (B), 1 skein; Dove Heather (C), 1 skein.
Needles Size 7 (4.5 mm): 24″ circular needle and pair of double pointed needles (dpns)– or size to obtain gauge, though gauge isn’t terribly important with this project.
Notions Yarn bobbins, 6 small stitch holders or locking stitch markers, cable needle, tapestry needle, 2 spare 24″ circular needles for Kitchener BO, same size or smaller.
Gauge 28 sts and 27 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in k1,p1 combination rib, after blocking. For your swatch you can use the yarn left over after cutting colors B & C. Adjust needle sizes if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Design Notes The diamonds and triangles are worked in intarsia combination rib, each with their own working yarn. The cables are worked in stockinette, each with their own working yarn, and travel across the ribbed background; the background yarn is stranded behind each cable.
If you want to work intarsia or colorwork in your prefered method, feel free to make bobbins or cut lengths of yarn as you work, just skip the Getting Ready section below.
Most of the wrong side rows are simple resting rows where all colors are matched, the diamonds and triangles are ribbed in pattern, and the undersides of the cables are purled.
