Ursula’s Path is a Moebius cowl with an unusual construction method: the Half Twist Helix. It is initially worked flat, from the outside edge towards the centre, and is finished with a Kitchener graft and a short slipstitched seam.

The stitch pattern is fully reversible, a combination of garter stitch and twisted rib, with eyelets defining the shape of the motifs. It is based loosely on the repeating pattern Bear Tracks.

The pattern is written in one size only, with notes on customising the size. Multiples of 40 stitches can be added or subtracted to change the length of the cowl, and the depth can be increased by adding extra rows of garter stitch.

Two gauges are given. garter stitch: 19 stitches and 40 rows to 4”
Twisted rib: 24 stitches and 20 rows to 4”.

The pattern has been professionally tech edited and tested.

My testers used a wide variety of worsted weight yarns, and even the cowl made with 5 strands of laceweight had excellent stitch definition.

You will need a size 8 (5mm) needle for casting on, using the cable rib method. (instructions in pattern) and a size 6 (4mm) needle for working the cowl. It can be made comfortably from 200g worsted weight yarn.
