Winter Seashore Stroll - your sweater and cardigan all-in-one!

It was this week, 4 years ago, that the Sea Collection was born with the launch of Sea Whisper. Little did I know how one fun textured swatch of knits and purls would evolve into 3 sweaters, 2 cowls, 2 hats, 1 pair of mitts and a headband! And now let me introduce to you the 4th sweater and the first cardigan in the collection.

Thank you for being here, for following this knitting adventure with me, and for creating so many stunning projects in this collection. Please know that every time I see one of these designs in the real world, my heart still skips a beat just like it did the first time! ❤️

I’ve had so many requests for a heavier yarn version of Seashore Stroll and so finally I’m happy to tell you it’s here, along with a sister cardigan/jacket version to boot!

You can use a worsted weight yarn or some heavy DK’s (be sure to check the meterage). I loved knitting this sweater so much, that I have 3 samples to share with you today!

  • A super warm sweater made with Hudson & West’s Forge,
  • a sturdy cardigan, almost jacket-like version, using De Rerum Natura Gillliatt.
  • and last, but not least, a super warm cosy, completely fluffy cardi using Fluff from The Wandering Flock. It’s like knitting with a cloud of soft fluffy Candy Floss (Cotton Candy U.S.)!

PATTERN FILES:
Upon purchase there are two separate PDF files - one for the sweater and one for the cardigan.

CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
Winter Seashore Stroll Cardigan is worked in one piece, flat, from the top down. The sleeves are worked in the round.

Winter Seashore Stroll Sweater is worked in one piece, in the round, from the top down. The EOR marker is placed at the back centre.

Both: Short rows are worked for shaping the neck area of the sweater which are followed by a series of textured stitch patterns that form the yoke. The final yoke increases are worked in raglan sleeve fashion. After this, you proceed to sleeve and body separation.

The body may be worked straight or have a shaped waistline. The hem has two options,
a) a garter, eyelet, and pennant hem (shown in photos), or
b) a twisted rib.

The sleeves are worked from the bottom of the yoke to the cuff. There are also two options for the sleeve cuff as per the hem.

Cardigan: The button band is then worked, with the ribbed neck band being the final part added to finish the cardigan. Please note that a final buttonhole is positioned in the neck band.

You may shorten/ lengthen this garment by knitting less/ more body length before commencing the hem. Try on as you go and adjust accordingly. Please note that extra yarn will be required if you knit the body length longer than the measurement in the schematic, and placement of buttonholes will also need to be adjusted. I have provided a matrix in Appendix A (page 12) to help you work out your extra yarn quantities.

Gauge: Gauge is particularly important in this project, especially the Rnd/Row gauge in the Textured Yoke. Please work a gauge swatch in the Yoke Textured Stitch Pattern (page 12) and adjust needle size accordingly. The final measurements only apply if the correct gauges are maintained throughout the garment. See gauge information below.
