Wild Herring Mitts
A pattern from The Wild Herrings eBook, Wild Herring Mitts are long, slouchy mitts with a stranded herringbone stitch pattern. The pattern changes to a stripe for the thumb and gusset.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
8” in diameter, 12½” long
20 cm in diameter, 32 cm long
ONE SIZE
For a larger mitt, increase the needle sizes.
YARN
1 skein each of two contrasting colors in Woolfolk Tynd (223 yards / 204 meter / 50 grams)

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
Needle A (gauge needle): US 2 (2.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge, 24” circular needle for Magic Loop method or set of dpns.
Needle B (for ribbing): US 1 (2.25 mm), or one size smaller than gauge needle, 24” circular needle for Magic Loop method or set of dpns
Needle C (for thumb): US 2.5 (3 mm) dpns
Tapestry needle, 1 unique marker, 1 extra marker for the gusset stitches, waste yarn
GAUGE
32 sts and 37 rows for 4”/10cm in stranded stitch, after blocking
NOTES
The dominant color in the sample mitts is the lighter color.
