Vulcano

Vulcano is a one and a half skein shawl easily worn as a bandana or a scarf. It uses stranded colorwork and stripes to fade the colors, which leads to an eruption of simple ‘structured freeform lace’.

I spent 5 months having this pattern tested and tech edited to make sure anyone could pick up the pattern and be able to knit the structured freeform lace, seeing as it’s probably a foreign concept to most.

It was designed one night when I was looking for a way to get the look of a complex lace without a chart of a difficult pattern to memorize. The resulting lace is really fun to do, and not nearly as hard or as scary as it may sound. Part of the joy is there is no wrong. Make yarnovers paired with knit2togthers wherever you feel, and the outcome will be original and personal to you.

The Needs:

-US 4 (3.5mm) 40” circular needle.
-Four stitch markers and a darning needle.
-Color A: 100 grams (400 yards) of any single ply fingering weight yarn.
Color B: 50 grams (200 yards) of any contrasting single ply fingering weight yarn.
-Gauge: 25 stitches and 28 rows per 4” blocked garter stitch.
-Final Measurements: 57” from side to side and 13 ½” from top to bottom at the deepest point; After blocking.
