Meet Vikram the velutinous monster! In case you were wondering, velutinous means covered in short, dense hair, in case you were wondering. He is very snuggly, very fuzzy, and a wonderful warm friend. I normally have you just pick your yarn to knit one of my patterns but as soon as I saw Caribou from Hikoo yarns I knew I needed to make a monster knitting pattern from it! This yarn is super cool and totally makes this monster.

This knitting pattern from Danger Crafts will show you how to knit this fuzzy little monster. Vikram has a very fuzzy body, arms, antennas, and feet, and fun stripey legs. Fuzzy and stripey, exactly the things that make a monster irresistible! If you don’t want to use the Caribou yarn, this guy can easily be knit up by holding eyelash yarn together with worsted weight (or any weight really) as well. This pattern is guaranteed to have your friends and family putting in requests for monster knits once they’ve seen your first one!

Skill Level: Intermediate (I would recommend this pattern for beginning knitters that are comfortable knitting in the round or who want a bit of a challenge. I have rated it “intermediate” because according to the Craft Council skill level guidelines, anything knitted in the round is intermediate.)

Skills used: Basic knit and purl stitches, increases, decreases, knitting in the round, i-cord, knitting stitches in waste and removing it later to expose live stitches, and basic sewing skills.

Yarn:
A: 150 Yards (2 Skeins) Caribou by Hikoo (100% Nylon, 85m/50g per skein)
You can also use 150 yards of worsted weight yarn held together with 150 yards of eyelash yarn for A
B: 50 Yards Worsted Weight Yarn in Main Contrast Color
C: 40 yards Worsted Weight Yarn in Second Contrast Color
You can also knit this pattern with any weight yarn held together with eyelash yarn. Just use needles 2-3 sizes smaller than recommended for the yarn to make a finished fabric the stuffing wont show through.

Gauge: No need to check gauge! Just make sure your finished fabric is tight enough that the stuffing once show through.

Needles:
I recommend a 40” circular needle (for Magic Loop Method) in US Size 5 (3.75mm)
1 set US Size 5 (3.75mm) double pointed needles (for I-Cord and top of antenna)
You can also use the circular needle for i-cord, it just tends to be a bit cumbersome

If you are knitting the pattern with a different weight of yarn held together with an eyelash yarn pick a needle size 2-3 sizes smaller than recommended for that yarn.

Notions: Waste yarn for holding live stitches, scissors, tapestry needle, stuffing, stitch marker for marking beginning of the round, row counter (optional, but very helpful), straight pins for making up (optional), sew on googly eyes (see last page of pattern for source) or safety eyes.

Two sample monsters with material lists to create them are included in this pattern. Sample monsters are 15” tall not including their antennas. Monsters knit in lighter or heavier yarns held together with eyelash yarn will range in size.
