Victory Hat & Spring Break Scarf
Pattern #5003
If using the Noro Lily yarn, the hat alone will take 2 balls. The scarf alone will take 2 balls. If you plan on doing both, it takes 3 balls.
I designed this hat for a dear friend who was undergoing chemotherapy. It is knitted snuggly and incorporates an interesting manipulated slip stitch pattern that I used for one repeat, then I reversed its direction for the second repeat. The scarf is knitted rather loosely to accentuate its drape; I used a brioche stitch with an I-cord side edge.
I would recommend using a yarn that has some drape and is not overly elastic. Think silk, bamboo, Tencel, cotton.
The finished hat measures approximately 20” in circumference (unstretched). It is meant to closely fit a woman’s head. The hat is knitted from brim to crown, starting with a circular needle and changing to double pointed needles as necessary. Alternatively, you could knit the entire hat on double pointed needles, or use a very long circular needle (aka, “the magic loop”), or use two circular needles.
