Pattern 5013

These two scarves share a motif of squares, or “patches”. The scarf on the left, “Mismatch Patch”, has patches of stockinette stitch and linen stitch. The scarf on the right, “Hopscotch”, has patches of garter stitch on a background of a non-lace-like lace stitch. Both scarves rely on stitch pattern for texture; “Hopscotch” looks best in a solid color; “Mismatch Patch” works well in both solid-color and variegated yarns.

The shape of this scarf is not strictly rectangular. Because of the adjacent placing of the patches of stockinette stitch and linen stitch, the scarf has a wavey shape. To stabilize the edges a bit, they are worked in 2 stitches of reverse stockinette stitch. In addition, the beginning and ending hems have been worked in stockinette stitch with a smaller needle to create a shallow, crisp curl.
