Gauge
20 sts and 32 rows/rounds = 4” (10 cm) in Lace pattern and garter rib on larger needle, after gentle blocking
20 sts and 40 rows/rounds = 4” (10 cm) in ribbing on smaller needle, after gentle blocking

Umbel is knit in the round from the bottom up, and then split at the underarm to work the back and fronts
separately. After the armhole depth is complete, short rows are worked to shape the shoulders. The shoulders
are then seamed. Bands are picked up and knit in rib along the front neck shaping, and finally, a collar is
picked up and knit from these bands and the neck edge.
