the chance collection
chance (accident, random, haphazard: call it as you like) plays an important role in every life – at least in mine! - so here’s an attempt to translate this concept into knitting: a group of patterns that are dedicated to eagerly curious knitters who, like me, get bored easily and know that knitting is not just made of needles and yarn. therefore chance, in various ways, is used to relieve knitting from the contingency of the pattern’s detailed directions, transforming these pieces in random (and rather subversive) acts of knitting.
beyond basic instructions for fully customizable outcomes, each of these patterns is accompanied by some inspiration from movies, art, books and music to watch, read and listen to along the way - if you happen to knit one of them you’re invited to publish your project on Ravelry adding also your personal sources of inspiration!
note: the patterns of this collection are not based on conventional line-by-line instruction, thus for a satisfactory knitting experience it is essential to carefully read all the instructions in order to fully understand the whole process prior to start knitting.
the music of chance
two oblique loops partially joined compose a unique cowl that includes two diverging but intertwined paths - another exploration of the concepts of double and opposite possibilities.
this cowl can be realized in many ways, choosing the yarn for the two loops, their dimensions and their connection and it is perhaps the most versatile piece in the collection in terms of expressive possibilities - along the knitting it will become obvious how it’s important to follow the instinct, but also how making the right choice at the right moment is equally decisive.
for the interlocking technique all credits to Lynne Barr’s work - complete reference in the pattern.
yarn:
any combination you prefer: same or different thickness, same or different composition, same or different shade.
used for the sample:
WalkCollection Silky DK - 50% Merino/50% Silk - 100g = 212m/231yds (90gr total)
WalkCollection KidMohair Lace - 70% Kid Mohair/30% Silk - 50g = 500m/459yds (15gr total)
both in shade Hurricane.
needles:
straight or circulars plus one spare needle, circular or dpn, of the same size - consider a needle size slightly bigger than the one recommended for the chosen thicker yarn (used for the sample 4.5 mm needles for both yarns) - a crochet hook of the same size
gauge:
not crucial but it needs to be checked if you want to decide the final dimensions
size:
fully customizable
skill level:
intermediate / adventurous
