Pattern Notes
This tam is worked in the round from the bottom up. The brim is worked, then turned with WS facing, and then a stocking stitch facing is worked. The brim is then turned back and sewn to the facing. The crown is oversized, as tams often are, so a lightweight yarn option is provided for anyone wanting a slightly less extravagent item of headwear. 120 tassels are cut and threaded through the very top of the tam to create a flamboyant flourish. Charts plus written instructions are provided for each size. The sample shown in the photographs is the heavyweight version, knitted in the largest size. The circumference of the brim of the tam should be approximately 5-8cm (2-3in) less than the widest point on the head of the intended wearer.
