Vaila is a recreation of a cardigan from the early twentieth century on display in the Shetland Museum - an elegant slightly boxy cardigan with an all-over colourwork pattern and a moss (seed) stitch welt and front bands.

2nd, 5th and 8th sizes

Pattern Notes
The main body is worked in the round from the bottom up with a centre front steek throughout and armhole steeks added after the underarm divide. The sleeves are picked up and knitted downwards. The front and neck bands are picked up and knitted with short rows worked to create the lapels and rolled collar. Shourlders are grafted together on a single colour pattern row. Crochet button loops are made at the edge of the front band after the rest of the garment has been completed. Charts plus written instructions are provided for each size. The sample shown in the photographs is the first size, worn with zero ease. However it is suggested you choose a size with 5-10cm (2-4in) of positive ease.
