The Way You Wear Your Hat
The way you wear your hat,
The way you sip you tea…
That variegated skein of yarn in your stash that you aren’t quite sure what to do with? The one that might stripe or splotch or pool in stockinette stitch? This design was created with such variegated colorways in mind. The stacks of twisted, faux-cables on the body of the hat ease the striping, and give an almost-woven look to the fabric while breaking up the pooling considerably.
Pair a variegated colorway with a complimentary solid yarn for the ribbing, or just work the hat up in a single, semi-solid yarn for a textural topper
The hat is worked from the bottom-up beginning with the ribbing in the CC, and continues with the Right Twist Pattern for the body of the hat in the MC.
Gauge: 20 sts & 28 rows/4” (blocked) in Right Twist Pattern on size 7 needles (or size to obtain gauge). Ribbing measures 26.5 sts and 28 rows/4” unstretched.
Finished Measurements: 21.6 ” in circumference; ribbing is 16.3” in unstretched circumference, Depth of hat is approx. 9” from the folded ribbing to crown.
Materials:
1skein each of the Main Color (MC; variegated) and Complimentary Color (CC, solid) in Madelinetosh Tosh DK (250 yds/skein; Shown in City Lights for the MC, Composition Book Grey for the CC), or approximately
150 yards of the MC, and 90 yards of the CC in DK weight yarn.
