Swerve
Much easier than it may look - this mitts pattern has a lot going on to keep a knitter interested: 2 different working directions, faux cables, and more… but with stitch markers to help keep track of everything, it’s really not much harder than knitting with lots of increases and decreases, and will leave you with some classic but totally unique, fitted and comfy fingerless mitts!
The garter stitch cuff is worked flat, using a sideways edge cast-on to create stitches across the top of the cuff, which then become the hand cast-on stitches when joined around (this means no picking up stitches or seaming!). Step-by-step photos are included in the pdf to help out. Links to detailed photo tutorials for all techniques used (like a crochet provisional cast-on, 3-needle bind-off, decrease bind-off) are included as well.
Sizes: small, medium, large - all for adults (measurements included in pattern)
Yarn: 90-135 yards (depending on size) of heavy worsted weight (examples are Knit Picks City Tweed, Knit Picks Chroma, and Crystal Palace Yarns Taos)
Needles: size US 8 double pointed, or size to get gauge, plus another set around 2 sizes smaller, or long circulars instead for magic loop method
Gauge: 9.5 stitches per 2 inches (a bit less than 5 stitches per inch) over stockinette stitch
Techniques used: crochet provisional cast-on, short rows (no wrapping), 3-needle bind-off, knitting in the round on double pointed needles (or optional magic loop method with a circular), decrease bind-off, “Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-off”, increases and decreases (explanations and/or links to tutorials for all techniques are included in the pdf)
