Sweet Rose Socks
This pattern is the pattern for round 5 of Sock Madness 15.
In April of 2020 I failed to advance to the next round in Sock Madness 14 so I started to think about the design for Sock Madness 15. I had an idea floating around in my head, and I was feeling a little devious. I wanted to design a challenge but a nice sock as well. This sock combines almost all of the techniques I could think of. There is a little lace work, some traveling stitches, toe-up construction, short rows, beads and embroidery. You have your work cut out for you. But don’t fret. It really is not all that difficult and simple things give amazing results.
Materials: approximately 420 meters (459 yards) 4-ply sockyarn (I used Het Wolbeest Super Sok BFL, 75% BFL 25% Nylon, 420 meters / 100 gram, “Vanille” and 2 scrap yarns. You need less than 5 grams of each scrap yarn colour).
Needles: 5 dpn’s 2.5 mm (US 1½) or size necessary to obtain gauge.
Tools: Tapestry needle or blunt embroidery needle for weaving in ends and the embroidery, a thinner tapestry needle for the beading, and scissors.
Extra: 16 pearls 4mm (or 6/0 Miyuki seed beads) and 160 8/0 Miyuki seed beads (3mm), in colours complementing the scraps used for the rose petals. You will also need 3 markers, a BOR marker and an A and B marker.
Gauge: 32 stitches and 44 rows per 10x10 cm (4x4 inches) in stockinette.
Size: one size M/L (European 38/39 & 40/41 & 42/43 or U.S. 8/9 & 10/11).
