Swagger Capelet
Swagger Capelet
Constructed bottom up with fit and flared shaping.
Fantastic for variegated yarns.
Gives the appearance of folded or swagged pleats winding around.
There are a lot of purl stitches. Not everyone’s favorite, I know, so advanced warning.
Skills: Work in the round, k, p, p2tog, p3tog, pyop increase.
Though general skills are basic, there is a lot going on at once making this more concentration heavy.
I’d say Established Intermediate Level knitters will be most comfortable.
Chart reading skills are recommended but written line-by-line (abbreviated) instructions are included.
Blocking is not required - Dry cleaning recommended.
Sibling to SWAG a smaller less fitted version in heavier weight yarn.
YARN
- 550 y (503 m) of Sport Weight Yarn
Sample Yarn: Malabrigo Arroyo in Arapey
100% Merino Superwash (Plied)
330 y (305 m) per 100 g
Sample Usage: 512 y (468 m) 155 g
NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
- US 6 (4 mm) Needles with 16 – 24” (40 – 60 cm) Cords
- Or size that gets gauge/desired fabric.
- Row Counter
- Stitch Markers (15 + 1 different, optional additional 8)
- Tapestry Needle
MEASUREMENTS
15” (38.5 cm) Tall
19” (48 cm) Upper Circumference
38” (95.5 cm) Lower Circumference
GAUGE
Gauge is not critical, but will affect size and yarn requirements.
Unblocked Stockinette – For yarn/needle selection
21 sts by 30 rounds = 4” (10 cm) Square
This gauge provided for yarn and needle pairing, to get an appropriate fabric density without needing to swatch the full repeat in the round.
SIZE NOTES
Though this is not a ‘sized’ item, it will hang higher the larger your shoulders and chest are. (It should come to the shoulders and cover the upper chest of most.)
For reference: It hangs to the largest part of the bustline on my medium (US 8/ EU 40/ UK 12) female mannequin.
Please refer to finished measurements.
