ACCORD NECK-WARMERS

Fidget friendly neck-wear. Simple stitching.

Get all the tactile and visual thrills you crave! It’s really fun to play with - Squishy, stretchy, wiggly, foldy, flip-able and totally reversible. Plus bright with high contrast colors.

Be in accord, make 2 neck warmers with opposite color placements and share with a friend, family or pet.

Alternating sections of 5 by 5 ribbing, with contrast color ridges of Stockinette and Reverse Stockinette, come together to create seesawing levels of reversible accordion texture.

Pattern has both written line by line (abbreviated) instructions and a chart.

Established Beginner Skills: Knit, knit through back loop, purl, purl 2 together, slip, yarn over.

Optional Skill: Catch and carry yarn up right hand side (or cut and sew in tails).

No blocking – dry clean only.

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS

  • US 6 (4 mm) Needles - Or size that gets gauge/desired fabric.
  • Row Counter
  • Stitch Markers (2 + 1 clip-on)
  • Tapestry Needle
  • ¾” (2 cm) Buttons – (3 per Neck-warmer)

MEASUREMENTS

20.5” (52 cm) Long
5” (13 cm) Tall, taken at the Wiggles

Measurements are taken with the item slightly relaxed.
The depth of the folds makes exact measurements difficult.

GAUGE

Gauge is not critical, but will affect size and yarn requirements.

Unblocked Stockinette Stitch
20 stitches by 28 rows = 4” (10 cm) Square

This gauge provided for yarn and needle pairing and
for usage considerations.
It is difficult to get an accurate measurement in pattern
due to the depth of texture.

Fabric to your liking is more important than exact gauge.
Please also see Care Note below.

NOTES AND TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT

  • Firm fabric is key to the outcome. I recommend a multiple-ply ‘bouncy’ yarn, or a dense single ply.

  • To get 2 neck warmers from 2 hanks please work closely to gauge, and swap colors C1 and C2 for the second. Notice the usage of C1 & C2 are unequal (44g of C1 in Ribbing, 36g of C2 in Wiggles).

  • You may cut or carry the yarn when switching between colors. If you do not cut, carry the non working color up the right hand side, catching it under the WS slipped stitches, thereby hiding it inside the I-cord Selvage.

  • I recommend using a clip-on marker to denote the right side of the work, moving if/ when desired.

Care

  • DRY CLEAN ONLY. If you really want to wash the item, you must knit it tighter to retain the wiggle folds. I recommend adding a repeat (10 stitches) wide and going down to a US 4 or 5 (3.5 or 3.75 mm) needle. This will change yarn requirements and the ability to get 2 pieces from 2 hanks. Even then you will lose some dimension, please test with a swatch.
