Sunnydale Wrap
The Sunnydale Cowl has been one of my most popular patterns since its debut in 2017, and it’s now been re-envisioned as a DK-weight wrap! As in the cowl, a unique combination of dropped and elongated stitches allows even the most wildly colorful and variegated yarn to sing, especially in the bouncy, glossy Playtime DK base from Marianated Yarns. Though the pattern is repetitive, the changing flashes of color will keep you entertained from cast-on to bind-off.
This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.
Recommended Yarn:
Marianated Yarns Playtime DK — 100% superwash merino — 274 yds (251 m) per 100 g skein. Shown in colorway Winter Honey.
Sample used the entirety of four skeins, or approx. 1,096 yds (1,002 m). Size can be easily adapted to desired dimensions or to available yarn.
Sizing:
24” (61 cm) wide and 89” (226 cm) long.
Blocked Gauge:
17 sts and 28 rows in 4” (10 cm) in dropped-st pattern, knit in the round and strongly blocked.
PLEASE NOTE: I used a US 6 (4 mm) needle in the sample, but as I tend to knit fairly tightly, the pattern calls for needles one size smaller. The pattern is not dependent on gauge, but changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of motifs, and amount of yarn used. To meet these dimensions, use the needle size that gives gauge.
Needles:
US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle, 24” (60 cm) or longer.
Other Materials:
Removable progress marker (optional, but recommended), tapestry needle.
Many thanks to Marian of Marianated Yarns for her support! This pattern has been professionally tech edited by Lisa Beth Houchins (Meanest Mommy Knits).
