This colorway was created for the Holiday Countdown and will be generally available in January 2025!

Designed for “Sheldon & Missy’s 2024 No Frills Holiday Countdown” from Marianated Yarns, the Selene Cowl is packed full of extra-whirly cabled delight. A generous cast-on (don’t panic!) creates a flared base that lays across the shoulders beautifully, then tapers into a narrower cowl body. It’s shown in Sea of Clouds, one of four new lunar-inspired colorways for the holiday collection. As a big fan of pretty-yet-functional accessories, I want to make a dozen more!

Pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.

Recommended Yarn:
Marianated Yarns Practicality 75/25 — 75% superwash merino / 25% nylon — 463 yds (423 m) to 100 g. Shown in colorway Sea of Clouds. Sample used approx. 385 yds (includes a 10% cushion).

Sizing:
27.5” (70 cm) around base and 20” (51 cm) around body, 10.5” (27 cm) high.

Blocked Gauge:
38 sts and 40 rows in 4” (10 cm) in cable pattern, knit in the round.

Needles:
US 3 (3.25 mm) circular needle, 16” and 24” lengths.

PLEASE NOTE: I actually used a US 4 (3.5 mm) needle in the sample, but as I do tend to knit somewhat tightly, the pattern calls for a US 3 (3.25 mm). Bear in mind that the large cables will pull in the fabric considerably. The pattern is not dependent on gauge, but changes in gauge will affect the finished size, look of motifs, and amount of yarn used. To meet these dimensions and to ensure enough yarn, please use the needle size that gives gauge.

Other Materials:
Ten stitch markers (one different to distinguish beginning of round), cable needle in appropriate size, tapestry needle.
