Summer Crush [a halter for girly]
I really love the idea of a piece that enters a girly’s wardrobe as a dress/tunic and grows with her, evolving into a top. This cute little number comes together so quickly with one seam and a bit of simple sewing. Your girly will be running about collecting lightening bugs by week’s end. And you’ll most likely be casting on once again as you + girly are smitten with your Summer Crush. Enjoy!
My original knitting pattern PDF includes 4 pages of easy-to-follow instructions with 13 full color photos. This piece was knit with 2 skeins of Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece 80% cotton, 20% merino wool; 215yd/197m per 3.5oz./100g skein) - 1 skein in the MC and 1 skein in the CC. You will use US 6 (4mm) straight or circular needles, or the size needles appropriate to obtain gauge. You could easily adapt this to accommodate other light worsted weight yarn - try a self-striping or kettle-dyed for color variations that suit your girly.
One size fits ages 2 through 5 or 6 years, which is thanks in part to a bit of (optional) elastic across the back band for a nice custom fit that can be adjusted over time. Suggestions are 1/2 yard of 1/8” elastic OR 1 ball Cascade Fixation 98.3% cotton, 1.7% elastic; 100yd/50g).
Measurements - neck opening 4.5” (11cm), neck-to-hem 12” (30cm), chest circumference 22” (56cm), hem circumference 31” (79cm), straps 11” (28cm). Please note, this will vary depending on your gauge and the yarn you choose.
This pattern is available for sale as a PDF download in my shop - thanks for looking!
