Stripey (kids sweater + hat)
From the book: “When a student of mine was asked why she didn’t knit a sweater her granddaughter could grow into she replied, “ I don’t want it to look terrible by the time it actually fits her.” This struck me as the smartest thing I’d ever heard about knitting for kids. The general consensus among knitters is that kids should get as much wear as possible out of a garment. However, they don’t seem to consider that it could be outworn by the time it fits. Or that it may look like a paper sack. Fitting in is hard enough for kids, don’t make them suffer by forcing them to wear bad knitting.“
Construction Notes:This sweater is made in separate pieces that are sewn together into a sweater. Like Lorelei and Poppy this sweater begins with a bottom panel from which stitches are picked up. However, instead of working in the round, you’ll knit tow separate panels and pick up stitches to work each piece flat.
