In 2019, I released the Stonewall headband pattern commemorating the 50th anniversary of the June 1969 Stonewall Uprising. LGBTQ people fought back during a routine police raid of the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City, which became a key turning point in the LGBTQ civil rights movement.
I have refreshed the design and made a hat pattern. The letters read “STONEWALL 石垣 (Ishi Gaki).” The latter part is Japanese kanji characters, comprising of 2 letters meaning Stone and Wall. Along with the typography are gender symbols in random order, celebrating the diversity and harmony of all genders.
I will be donating 80% of sales from this pattern to “Metamorphosis Project” in Memphis, Tennessee (20% will be used to cover the fees to Ravelry, PayPal, Tech Edit, and Adobe Creative Cloud). The Metamorphosis Project is organized by OUTMemphis to combat LGBTQ youth homelessness in Memphis.

PATTERN NOTES
- This hat is worked in the round from the brim to crown. Each size has slightly different designs.
- Where stitch counts vary depending on the size, the following format is used: Small (Medium, Large).
- The brim is worked in corrugated ribbing, then the body of the hat is worked in stranded knitting, with the unused color carried along the back of the work. Catch floats every 3- 4 stitches.
- Repeats will be expressed as “x”. For example, “x 3” means repeat 3 times.
- Stranded knitting is prone to making the fabric pucker if you knit too tightly. Mind your tension and allow enough slack in the float.
