This fun and colorful hat can keep you smiling through the next polar vortex. Blocked into a tam shape or left in a slouchy beanie form, with pompom or without, there are so many ways to make it your own. This is a great first pattern for those new to stranded knitting. The stitch repeats are small and very easy to memorize.
Requires:
1 50g skein of Quoth the Raven semisolid
1 50g cake of Love is Love gradient
Finished Measurements
Brim: 15.2 (17.5, 19)” brim
Above brim: 18.25 (23, 23)”
Overall length: 9 (9.5, 10)”
To fit head sizes: 16-18.5 (18.5-21, 21-23.5)” at forehead.
Shown in Large.
NOTE:
The Medium size involved some compromise. To get the spiral motif to look nice on the crown, the stitch count has to be a multiple of 25 sts. This leads to a jump in sizes of more than 4”. My solution was to use fewer stitches on the brim than for the large, but make the rest of the hat the same stitch count as the large. Alternatively, working the main body of the hat at 24 sts/4” will result in a less floppy hat that measures 20.8” around.
Pattern is mostly written, but colorwork motifs are only in chart form.
