Stav is a classic, elegant, stylish and simple dress. It’s designed to have ¾ sleeves and knee length, but the dress can easily be customized to your own desired length. Made with Hobbii Highland Wool, a 100% Peruvian wool heavy fingering weight yarn, it’s super lightweight but also quite warm and comfy. Stav is worked in the round from the bottom up, then divided at the armholes to work front and back separately. The sleeves are worked in the round by picking up stitches around the armhole. The dress has two blind seams along the sides which add more structure to the garment and keep it from twisting.

There is some positive ease everywhere, making this dress a bit oversized. The pattern includes instructions for a version with or without hip shaping. If you have a prominent bum, I recommend adding hip shaping. If you do not have a prominent bum, you can opt to forego the hip shaping.

GARMENT MEASUREMENTS

Choosing the right size is of utmost importance. Take your body measurements and choose the size that corresponds with them. The recommended ease for this design is approx. 0-10 cm (0-4 inches) of positive ease. The measurements below are the finished garment measurements, not your own.

Please note: if you decide to make your Stav dress without hip shaping, the hip circumference is the same as the chest circumference.

Chest circumference:
83, (91, 103, 112) (124, 133, 140) (153, 162) cm
32¾, (35¾, 40½, 44) (48¾, 52¼, 55) (60¼, 63¾) inches

Hip circumference:
91, (99, 112, 120) (133, 141, 149) (162, 170) cm
35¾, (39, 44, 47¼) (52¼, 55½, 58½) (63¾, 67) inches

Armhole depth:
16, (18, 19, 20) (21, 23, 24) (25, 26) cm
6½, (7¼, 7½, 8) (8½, 9¼, 9½) (10, 10¼) inches

The pattern includes a full size chart. Feel free to email me if you need any additional measurements.

MATERIALS

Needles: 4 mm needles (US size 6, UK size 8) or other needle size that matches gauge. I recommend using an 80 cm or 100 cm circular needle for the body, depending on the size you’re knitting. The sleeves can be worked on DPNs or a 40 cm circular needle. If you decide to use the magic loop method, you can also use a longer circular needle.

3.5 mm OR 3 mm 60 cm circular needle (US size 4, UK size 9 OR UK size 11) for the neck ribbing, depending on how tight you want your neck ribbing to be.

Yarn: Heavy fingering weight yarn, approximately 1370, (1510, 1720, 1850) (2060, 2200, 2330) (2550, 2700) meters / 1500 (1650, 1900, 2000) (2250, 2400, 2550) (2800, 2950) yards for a version without hip shaping. For a version with hip shaping you’ll need approx. 1500, (1700, 1950, 2100) (2325, 2500, 2625) (2850, 3000) meters / 1640, (1860, 2133, 2297) (2543, 2734, 2871) (3117, 3281) yards.

I used Hobbii Highland Wool in the colorway Autumn Leaf (25) for my sample. This is a heavy fingering weight 100% non-sw Peruvian Highland wool yarn that comes in 50g balls (à 175m / 191 yd). You can also use any other heavy fingering weight yarn that gives you the correct gauge.

Other tools: Darning needle, scissors, stitch markers, measuring tape, scrap yarn OR extra cable.
