The tenacity of the plants that spring up in New York fascinates me. Look closer at an intricate piece of architecture, and you are likely to see a bit of green scrambling across the stones, seemingly out of nothing.

Spreading Vines is a tribute to these carefree plants, a reminder of the touch of life they give to the dramatic stonescapes of the city.

This fully reversible and entertaining knit begins with a diamond-shaped center, knitted in the round from the center out. Two sides of the diamond are then worked flat to form one half of the piece; the other two sides are worked in the same way. The result is an elegant elongated diamond that looks beautiful whether draped over the shoulders or wrapped snugly about the neck.

Spreading Vines may be knitted in two sizes: stole and scarf. The same instructions are followed for both sizes; the difference lies in the weight of the yarn used. The stole is knitted in sport-weight yarn, and the scarf in fingering-weight.
