Solid or contrasting semi-solid yarns work best with two color images. Gradual color changes are also suitable, if the used yarns have enouch contrast between each other.

Actual gauge is not that important, it only affects the finished size and required meterage. The given meterage is for one color and only approximate, you can finish the pattern earlier if you are happy with your scarf length.
