Seaward
Seaward is a delicate crescent shaped shawl featuring lace, cables, nupps and beads! A lace shard featuring an Estonian paw pattern emerges from a simple stockinette band and expands into a deep lace border with a just a taste of cables, nupps and beads.
From afar the motifs in this shawl look like a mountain range with waves dancing in the foreground. In naming this shawl I was thinking in particular of the Seaward Kaikouras near where I live in the South Island of New Zealand – a craggy mountain range that dominates the skyline when approached by sea from the east, but there may be a coastal range near you with a similar imposing appearance when viewed from the sea, and which may inspire a name for your shawl.
Yardage:
The original sample used 670 metres of Eden Cottage Theseus Lace, but I have added 10% more to the listed yardage to account for gauge differences and yarn substitution. I urge you start with at least 750 metres of yarn.
The use of beads is optional, but if you do wish to use them you will approximately 440 size 8 seed beads and a .6mm crochet hook to attach them.
You will need to be able to read charts to complete this shawl.
