Sean's Qandahar Gloves
These gloves/mittens are designed specifically for troops serving over in Afghanistan (both in mens’ and womens’ sizes), where the winters can get extremely cold, and it can be difficult to use computers, guns etc. out in the elements. However, such flip-top gloves/mittens are also useful when fumbling for your keys on cold mornings, or trying to use your iPhone. You’ll notice the directions are long, but thorough. The glove/mittens are constructed wrist-up; they then split at the hand and knit the glove flat, after which they turn at the tip of the fingers, re-join the glove at the edges, and knit to the buttonhole. The fingers are then re-cast-on and knit up past the glove. Any questions should be directed to me.
Ideally, I would like to see people start knitting these gloves for our troops in Afghanistan the same way that we are currently knitting socks and helmet liners. It would be a wonderful thing to do, and not that much harder.
