Sea and Sand Mitts
I really enjoyed using the beautiful yarn in the gorgeous colors from Expression Fiber Arts. This is a fingering weight, hand dyed, called “Sincere Sock”. It’s fabulous! The colors were perfect for the project. The yarn is soft and yet still strong.
I live in southern California. We have beautiful beaches here. I had the concept for this pattern and the matching Sea and Sand Shawl (also on ravelry now) for a while. The blues of the Pacific, the golden sand, and little white glass beads representing the sea foam as the water rushes ashore are stunning. The mitts use the same yarn as this shawl and if you have yarn for the shawl, you can make the mitts without purchasing more yarn!
I chose a modified feather and fan pattern for the water portion. It rises and falls just like ocean waves and adds drama and life to the design. The cuff, representing the sandy beach, is ribbed.
The mitts have no picked up stitches nor any seams. They are fun to knit and very interesting with lace, beads and ribbing! There is a large, easy to read chart, but there are also written directions for the chart for those who prefer not using a chart.
These colorful fingerless mitts will fit a wrist circumference of 5”/12.7cm - 8.5”/21.6cm. The hand portion will fit anyone with a hand circumference of 7”/17.8cm - 9”/22.9cm.
