Every year during the fall break, I get to spend a few days in the Engadin in the Swiss mountains. And every year, I am impressed by the sgraffiti on every corner of every house, every facade, and around every window. I am really taken with this wealth of shapes and figures. That’s why I was inspired by the sgraffiti and designed this beautiful scarf. This way, I always have a beautiful memory of the time I was able to spend in the Engadin. The wealth of different motifs makes knitting this scarf very entertaining. A few panels require a lot of counting, while others can be knitted almost intuitively. In between, there are even individual rows without color changes. The variety is really fun

In the instructions, each panel is described in a separate section, which includes both a counting pattern and a row-by-row description. The panels can be placed in any order on the scarf. The instructions describe how the scarf can be lengthened.

Many panels of this scarf are easy enough for relative beginners to the double-faced technique. However, some panels are rather difficult. Therefore, I would only recommend the entire scarf for experienced double-faced knitters. The instructions indicate the difficulty level for each panel. If you do not have much experience with double-faced knitting but would still like to knit this scarf, you can choose to omit the most difficult panels. The options for lengthening the scarf explained in the instructions show how the loss of length can be compensated for by omitting one or more panels. You also have the option of integrating panels from my Mur Bella scarf into this Pictura scarf.

Knowledge required:

  • Stitch cast-on
  • Cast off
  • Knitting knit and purl stitches
  • Double face knitting exercise

What you get:
You will receive detailed instructions and a complete counting pattern for the whole scarf. The instructions also contain a separate, clear counting pattern and a row-by-row description for each individual panel of the shawl. The instructions also describe various options with specific instructions for lengthening/shortening the scarf.

Difficulty level:
The shawl contains 2 panels, which I really only recommend for experienced knitters. All other panels are easy to moderately difficult. The stitch sequence is written out for each individual row.

Material:
• Lana Grossa Cool Wool Lace (100% Merino, LL approx. 400m / 50g): 65g white and 65g black. This scarf can of course also be knitted with another wool with a similar yardage. Make sure that the selected wool does not scratch the neck. The same amount of wool is needed for both colors.
