Anyone who has ever been to the Engadin in the Swiss mountains is guaranteed to have seen them: the sgraffiti on every house corner, every façade and around every window. This wealth of shapes and figures really appealed to me. That’s why I was inspired by the sgraffiti and designed this beautiful scarf. The different motifs make knitting this scarf very entertaining. Count-intensive panels alternate with panels that can be knitted almost intuitively and in between there are even individual rows without color changes. The variety is great fun.

The instructions are clearly divided into individual sections; one section for each panel. The instructions contain both a counting pattern and a row-by-row description. The panels are designed in such a way that the order of the panels can be freely chosen. In addition, several options are described for extending the scarf.

Although many of the panels are easy to master even for relative beginners in the double face technique, some of the panels are rather difficult. In its entirety, I would recommend this scarf only for experienced double knitters. In the instructions, the level of difficulty is indicated at the beginning of the description of each panel. If you don’t have that much experience and still want to try this scarf, you can decide to skip the most difficult panels. The options for lengthening the shawl explained in the instructions show how to compensate for the loss of length by omitting one or more panels.

You can integrated all panels of my scarf Pictura into this scarf without any problems.

Knowledge required:

  • Stitch cast-on
  • Cast off
  • Knitting knit and purl stitches
  • Double face knitting exercise

What you get:
You will receive detailed instructions and a complete counting pattern for the whole scarf. The instructions also contain a separate, clear counting pattern and a row-by-row description for each individual panel of the shawl. The instructions also describe various options with specific instructions for lengthening/shortening the scarf.

Difficulty level:
The shawl contains 3 panels, which I really only recommend for experienced knitters. All other panels are easy to moderately difficult. The stitch sequence is written out for each individual row.

Material:
• Lana Grossa Cool Wool Lace (100% Merino, LL approx. 400m / 50g): 65g white and 65g black. This scarf can of course also be knitted with another wool with a similar yardage. Make sure that the selected wool does not scratch the neck. The same amount of wool is needed for both colors.
