This is the third of my group of three Elizabeth Stitch Modius Cowls. It is deep enough to wear as a Snood (which is like a hood), or as a cozy cowl. The stitch patterns are sections of Elizabeth Stitch alternating with sections of the Elevated Crown stitch.

See the eBook for all 3 cowls at a bargain price!

The Pattern Romance was inspired by Elizabeth Bennet of “Pride and Prejudice.”

A Walk in Rosings Park
In which Lizzy visits Hunsford Parsonage and her snood attracts attention.

“What is that you are holding, Dear Cousin?” asked Mr Collins.

“This?” replied Lizzy. “My snood – it’s akin to a deep cowl, and I thought it a wise choice for my walk today, as it is a bit chill outside.”

“But the stitch pattern - it appears to resemble crowns, or tiaras!”

“Indeed,” said Lizzy, “it is called ‘the Elevated Crown’ pattern, and is a most enjoyable pattern to crochet.”

“But my Dear Cousin – it is hardly suitable for a young lady of your lowly station to be wearing such an elegant snood! It is more appropriate for a female of superior breeding, such as Miss Anne de Bourgh, or even Lady Catherine herself!”

Mrs Collins now spoke up, “But My Dear, what if she stays in our garden? Lady Catherine is not likely to see her wearing the elegant snood!”

“No, My Dear,” argued Mr Collins. “You know Lady Catherine often condescends to drive past the parsonage - nay, even to peer through our windows – to ensure we are preserving the distinction of rank!”

(Elizabeth took this opportunity to sneak out the door behind him…)

“Oh drat! It’s that prideful, prejudiced Mr Darcy again,” said Lizzy to herself, as she spied him approaching through Rosings Park. “Just my luck he is visiting Lady Catherine, while I am staying at the parsonage!”

“Miss Bennet!” spoke Mr Darcy, with great emotion. “It will not do! In vain have I struggled! You must permit me to tell you how ardently I admire your elegant snood! Your lowly station, your lack of a fortune, even your sister’s improprieties in the duckpond, cannot quench my emotions upon examining the stitch pattern! Pray, put me out of my misery and marry me!”

“Please, Mr Darcy! I believe it is the practice of elegant females to express gratitude for the honor you have bestowed upon me, but I neither crocheted nor wore this exquisite snood to attract your arrogant admiration!”

“And this is the only answer you give me? Can you at least lend me the crochet pattern for my sister, Miss Georgiana Darcy? Or better yet, come visit my spacious estate in Derbyshire to give Georgiana crochet lessons?”

Lizzy considered for a few moments, admitting to herself a growing desire to see Mr Darcy’s spacious estate. “Perhaps it might be arranged…”
