Rodeo Queen Shawl
A generous snuggly wrap for those cold mornings in the stable or a light, frilly accessory for an evening at the honky-tonk. Either way you’ll be the envy of the Rodeo when you show off this shawl.
This crescent shaped shawl is knit from the bottom up with short row shaping in the body. The lace edging is both charted and written out. It is specially designed for Dye2Spin’s Rodeo colorways showcased in the 2014 DFW Yarn Crawl.
Pictured from top to bottom in:
Size Large in Dye2Spin Merino DK - 1 skein each of Rodeo Queen (border) and Rodeo Pink (body)
Size Small in Dye2Spin Merino Nylon sock - 1 skein of Rodeo Queen
Size Large in Dye2Spin Merino DK - 2 skeins of Rodeo Blue
Skill Level: advanced beginner - requires ssk, k2tog, centered double decrease, simple short rows
Sizes:
Small (worked in fingering weight yarn) – 60” (152 cm) wingspan x 8.5” (21 cm) deep at widest point
Large (worked in DK weight yarn) – 60” (152 cm) wingspan x 15” (38 cm) deep at widest point
Gauge:
Size Small - 19 stitches and 36 rows to 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch after light blocking
Size Large - 16 stitches and 29 rows to 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch after light blocking
Please note that the Merino DK base used for the Rodeo Queen yarns is an extremely springy extrafine merino that blocked to a loose gauge but still resulted in a fairly dense, spongy fabric. If you are substituting a different yarn you will need to check your gauge closely. Not getting gauge will affect the amount of yarn required and the final garment size.
Materials:
For Size Small:
-450 yards (412 m) of fingering weight yarn (Please note that the Rodeo Queen fingering weight is specially sized at 463 yards/hank.)
-US 4 (3.5 mm) or size needed for gauge, 40” (100 cm) long circular needles
For Size Large:
-500 yards (460 m) of DK weight yarn (250 yards each of border color and body color, if desired)
-US 7 (4.5 mm) or size needed for gauge, 48” (120 cm) long circular needles
